The FIRST EVER, ground-breaking all-girl Hindustani-Carnatic instrumental ensemble called Anuradha Pal’s Stree Shakti, dazzled Mumbai audiences recently, with a passionate celebration of woman power, composed & performed by ‘Rhythm Queen’ Pandita Anuradha Pal on Tabla, Pakhawaj and other world percussion accompanied by several, leading female musicians. With her own outstanding example, of being an innovative Tabla Phenomenon, despite not coming from a musician family, Anuradha has contributed tremendously in the male dominated world of Tabla with her interactive, storytelling presentations called ‘Anuradha Pal in Tabla Jugalbandi with herself’, ‘Krishna Ke Taal’ and ‘Ardha Nareshwar’.
Internationally acclaimed as the ‘first professional female Tabla maestro in the world’, Anuradha’s masterful collaborations with Indian and International Musicians & her 3 unique bands- SuFoRe, Recharge & Stree Shakti have earned her tremendous international repute and accolades. Accredited as ‘an Outstanding Torchbearer’ of Indian Classical Music & a ‘female empowerment icon’, Anuradha Pal has provided an encouraging platform & awards for folk, upcoming & female artists, to showcase their talent on a world stage. Anuradha composed the background score of M. F. Husain’s film Gaja Gamini, using only Tabla and voice, winning great appreciation at the Cannes Film Festival. She has played over 12 world percussion instruments and composed several top-selling, critically acclaimed music albums and songs like Recharge Plus, Passion, Nirvana, Dancing Rain, and her latest releases, Taaleem & Bharat Vandan, to name just a few. Concert review- Anuradha Pal’s Stree Shakti band performed some amazing Hindustani and Carnatic instrumental and percussion compositions, presenting an eclectic mix of pure classical and folk music. Their composition Raga Tala Yatra is a masterpiece and takes the listener on a beautiful journey of different Ragas and Talas of Indian Music traversing across Jatis and amazing rhythmic variations from both traditions. The highlight is Anuradha’s Taal Vadya Kacheri, which has the entire audience clapping along with Anuradha’s incredible performances on multiple percussion instruments, delivered with sparkling articulation and rhythmic wizardry.
